We develop forms of financing that complement grants when socially important solutions have the potential to grow and become part of permanent operations. Catalytic capital falls between grants and market-based financing and provides space for experiments that require time, flexibility, and risk-taking. The following article explains why financing should be viewed from a new perspective and what kinds of questions this development raises about values, impact, and responsibility.
